The effective wavelength for broadband fringe detection using fringe scanning

چکیده

The spectroscopic wavenumber is a proxy for the optical frequency, and avoids the necessity of writing factors of c everywhere. For optical and infrared radiation the wavenumber is conveniently expressed in units of inverse micrometers, thus a wavelength of 500 nm corresponds to 2.00 μm−1. The circular or angular wavenumber k = 2π/λ = 2πσ is often used, particularly in the context of the wave equation. Like the “ordinary” frequency (f or ν) and the circular frequency ω it is easy to confuse the two kinds of wavenumber!

Quantum interference fringes beating the diffraction limit.

Spatially formed two-photon interference fringes with fringe periods smaller than the diffraction limit are demonstrated. In the experiment, a fringe formed by two-photon NOON states with wavelength lambda=702.2 nm is observed using a specially developed near-field scanning optical microscope probe and two-photon detection setup. The observed fringe period of 328.2 nm is well below the diffract...

Phase and fringe order determination in wavelength scanning interferometry.

A method to obtain unambiguous surface height measurements using wavelength scanning interferometry with an improved repeatability, comparable to that obtainable using phase shifting interferometry, is reported. Rather than determining the conventional fringe frequency-derived z height directly, the method uses the frequency to resolve the fringe order ambiguity, and combine this information wi...

Comparison study of algorithms and accuracy in the wavelength scanning interferometry.

Wavelength scanning interferometry (WSI) can be used for surface measurement with discontinuous surface profiles by producing phase shifts without any mechanical scanning process. The choice of algorithms for the WSI to analyze the fringe pattern depends on the desired accuracy and computing speed. This paper provides comparison of four different algorithms to analyze the interference fringe pa...

On the Formation of White-light Fringes

A theoretical investigation is made of the effects of dispersion in neutral gases on the formation of white-light fringes in an ideal Mach-Zehnder interferometer. It is found that the shift of the brightest fringe is determined by the change of the group refractive index at an effective mean wavelength of the white light. However, the white-light fringe technique may be used to measure changes ...

16 Moiré and Fringe Projection Techniques

The term “moiré” is not the name of a person; in fact, it is a French word referring to “an irregular wavy finish usually produced on a fabric by pressing between engraved rollers” (Webster's 1981). In optics it refers to a beat pattern produced between two gratings of approximately equal spacing. It can be seen in everyday things such as the overlapping of two window screens, the rescreening o...
